Siemens ES64U2 “Taurus” – formerly operated
In 2019, DB Cargo Romania rented two Siemens ES64U2 “Taurus” locomotives, no. 064 and 068, from MRCE (Mitsui Rail Capital Europe BV), a company which leases and rents locomotives. This electric locomotive model has been made by Siemens starting in 2000 and is one of the most commonly seen engines in Europe, being used by numerous railway operators, both state-owned and private. Its popularity is a result of increased power, great reliability, efficiency and to the fact that it is interoperable, the 4-system locomotives being capable of operating on any electrified railway, in standard gauge, in Europe.
The locomotives are made by Krauss-Maffei Siemens plants, and over 360 ES64U2/U4 vehicles have been made until now. The two locomotives operated by DB Cargo Romania are bi-system and can use both the 15 kV / 16,7 Hz and 25 kV / 50 Hz networks. They are also known by their personalized name Taurus, with the official designation being BR 182.
By the end of their service operating for DB Cargo Romania – they were returned in 2022 – they had greatly helped us deliver the freight to or from our customers on time and without major disruptions.
